DSI Studio renovations: Fluid spaces and new equipment!

As part of a year-long effort, the DSI Studio has undergone significant remodeling and updating with state-of-the-art hardware and fluid and mobile working spaces for collaborative research interaction. Our vision of a crossroads collaborative research space for cross-disciplinary research in large-scale data and search is now realized!
Major updates include a sleek and stylish Izzy furniture design which sections the room into three areas: one for informal conferencing and videoconferencing in a comfortable lounge setting; one for work, small-scale presentation, and discussion; and one for larger-scale presentation and planning.
We also have several new pieces of equipment in the lab. Two 46-inch LCD TV's with higher-end graphics stations are available for visualization purposes: one in the lounge area and one in the middle work area. An additional large LCD TV shows news and recent developments in DSI as researchers enter the room.
The large-scale presentation area is powered by two short-throw ceiling-mounted projectors linked to a display machine. The projection area is nine feet wide.
We also added four powerful Dell workstations equipped with dual-displays: two 24" widescreen Dell UltraSharp monitors linked together running on RedHat Linux 5 boxes with blazing fast 10,000RPM hard drives. Our researchers' experience shows that dual displays are highly preferable for development activities.
