Airport Shuttle & Hotel Information:

University Place recommends Cary Indiana as the shuttle between Indy Airport and University Place Hotel. It should only be about $34 round trip. You can call them directly to make reservations at 1-317-241-7100 or you can go to the Ground Transportation Center at the airport after you land in Indianapolis to request a ride to your hotel and make your reservation for return to the airport. They are open 6 AM - Midnight Eastern Time.

The host hotel is sold out. Please contact the Courtyard at the Capitol at 888 816-4091. Ask for an Extended King at the IUPUI rate in order to receive a room and rate of the same value as University Place. If you have questions or concerns about accommodations please contact Robert Ping.

Workshop Overview:

Cloud computing promises unlimited resources for carrying out research or conducting operational computing tasks. But how well suited is it to advancing geosciences research and operational activities? How does one take advantage of it? Collaborative sharing technologies, such as Facebook, are a second and in some ways complementary technology that promises better science outcomes. In what way can collaborative technologies contribute to scientific or operational advancements in the geosciences?

The goals of the workshop are to:
  1. Identify the key benefits and risks to adopting collaborative and cloud computing technologies in operational and research settings.
  2. Present current best practices to making effective utilization of these resources.
  3. Identify the computer science research challenges that must be overcome to advance cloud computing and collaborative technologies in the geosciences.

The workshop is being sponsored by the National Science Foundation, and hosted by the Indiana University Pervasive Technologies Institute Data to Insight Center and LEAD project.
