Big Red II supercomputer close to reaching a milestone at IU
In 1997, when then Vice-President Michael McRobbie first arrived at IU, there were 304 people who used IU supercomputers. Most were associates of some 20 faculty in Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy, Biology, and Computer Science. Today, more than 3,793 faculty, students, and staff are using IU's advanced cyberinfrastructure, Big Red II – representing more than 144 disciplines and sub disciplines of science, humanities, engineering, and artistic creation. BRII usage is expected to surpass the 150-discipline mark by early summer of 2015. This will achieve a milestone established when the supercomputer went into production in July 2013.
