D2I researches new tools, frameworks, and organizational approaches for socially responsible application of new technology in smart and connected communities. Related activities include:
e-RPID Testbed: A robust PID testbed (called the RPID testbed (pronounced "rapid") that is running at IU to stimulate and enable evaluation of powerful new complementary outputs of the Research Data Alliance (RDA) in persistent ID (PID) oriented data management. For more information, data and code visit https://rpidproject.github.io/rpid or email rpid-l@iu.edu
Pacific Rim Applications and Grid Middleware Assembly (PRAGMA) http://www.pragma-grid.net/ and CENTRA http://www.globalcentra.org where Pacific Rim global activity in Smart and Connected Communities comes together. D2I has studied barriers to data sharing in this global context.
PID Kernel Information: A Persistent ID (PID) uniquely identifies a data object. PID kernel information is a small amount of information stored directly into the record of a PID. Such minimal information can help make data objects FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). The PID Kernel Information Working Group of the Research Data Alliance has been defining PID Kernel Information in the following RDA Recommendation document here
